Long-time Member & Supporter Al Pickering Passes Away

Elbert “Al” Pickering was born August 22, 1931, in Laveen, Arizona, and passed away August 8, 2018 in Tustin. He was 77 and had built a lifetime career in the construction industry where he contributed time and energy to ECA for four decades.

Al’s father worked construction jobs in Arizona and California moving the family between the two for many years until finally settling in the Southern California area.

Al started in the construction business in 1950 when he went to work for Jewel City Ready Mix in Glendale, California, as a truck driver.




He later went on to work as a salesman for most of his professional life building business relationships and friendships spanning an entire career for such companies as Greene’s Ready Mix, Westside Concrete and Catalina Pacific Concrete and Cal Portland cement from where he retired.

Dedication to ECA

Al served as a Director on the ECA Board from 1989 through 2005 where he held the position of Affiliate Chairman for six of his last years in his tenure.

Al’s dedication to his industry was reflected in his tireless commitment to the ECA. His ability to involve other members and industry professionals in a variety of association events was remarkable.

His charismatic approach reliably garnered the generous support of his colleagues and always proved successful in building the kind of participation unmatched in the organization’s history.
